I've been contemplating the downfall of the English language for quite a while. Every day, if we pay attention, we can see examples of the language being butchered. The latest one I've been pondering is when someone says "I could care less".

Let's break this down, shall we? Let's say there is a caring scale from 1 to 10. 1 means you don't care at all, and 10 means you care as much as possible. Now, let's say you tell someone "I could care less". In other words, you must score that topic at least a 2 on the caring scale, because you're saying "I could care less". If it was a 1, you couldn't care less (which is actually the correct phrase), because 1 is the smallest number on the scale.

So, the next time someone says "I could care less", you'll know that they're actually saying "I care about this topic". If they didn't care, then they would say "I couldn't care less".
